There are fewer and fewer farmers in Austria, currently 109,808 farms are managed. In comparison, in 1995 there were 192,793 farms.
Within a year, the number of farms fell by 1,009. This is evident from the current financing data of Agrarmarkt Austria (AMA). Things also went downhill in the organic sector: the number of organic companies fell nationwide by 579 or 2.5 percent to 22,730.
income even increased
Farmers’ incomes have risen sharply in the past year. The increase was almost 20 percent, well above inflation. In 2022, domestic agriculture produced goods worth about 10.4 billion euros (+22 percent).
Higher producer prices (+22.7 percent) were responsible for the strong increase, while production volume fell slightly by 0.7 percent, Statistics Austria recently reported.
