With inflation chasing the waves and many unable to afford basic expenses, pasta maker Paolo Barilla believes food prices will only continue to rise. With the “Krone” he talks about sustainability, animal welfare, his brother’s homophobic statements and pasta made from insect flour.
The family business, which Paolo Barilla runs together with his three siblings, had a turnover of around four billion euros in 2021 – with pasta, pesto, biscuits and bread (Wasa brand). In Italy, the land of pleasure, good food and pasta, the company was recently criticized for expensive pasta. However, Barilla argues that it is not the European food industry’s fault.
