Irish low-cost airline Ryanair expects rising passenger numbers and strong demand in the important summer travel season for the current financial year. Passenger numbers in 2023/24 (end of March) are expected to increase by 10 percent to 185 million, the company announced in Dublin on Monday. However, this number may also be slightly lower due to the postponement of aircraft deliveries by the American manufacturer Boeing.
Kerosene costs are likely to rise by a billion euros. However, a rising turnover should be able to compensate for this. Ryanair therefore sees net profit slightly higher than last year.
Ryanair continued to recover from the effects of the corona pandemic in the past financial year and benefited from price-conscious customers who opted for cheap travel despite inflation. Turnover more than doubled in 2022/23 to almost 10.8 billion euros.
loss in the previous year
Passenger numbers increased by 74 percent to 168.6 million, with the company gaining market share in most EU countries. After taxes, Ryanair earned 1.43 billion euros. Last year, the Irish made a loss of 355 million euros. The numbers were slightly better than analysts had expected.
