Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) welcomes electricity price reductions by some providers and blames this on a change in the law, according to which excess profits are skimmed more. “The measures taken by the federal government are working,” Nehammer emphasized on Wednesday.
According to Nehammer, the government’s actions are causing many large energy companies to lower their prices for end users.
“It is unacceptable that energy companies make millions of profits at the expense of their customers,” the Chancellor stressed.
Electricity price reductions by some providers
In the broadcast, Nehammer points out that Salzburg AG will reduce the work price to 19.90 cents per kilowatt hour in June, Verbund to “probably below 20 cents”, and Illwerke to 18.70 cents from July. Wien Energie and Energie Steiermark and Energie Graz would also lower prices.
“Positive domino effect”
Nehammer now sees a “positive domino effect” after his outburst, he doesn’t want to be “bothered” by the energy companies.
He hopes that other electricity companies will follow suit and lower prices as well.
