Poll and discussion – Is the euro really making everything more expensive in Croatia?

Date:

If you go on holiday in Croatia this year, you will pay in euros – and on top of that. Because the prices for groceries, services and the like have been rising for months, seemingly without end. Politicians deny that the introduction of the new currency is to blame. Have you noticed the price increases yet? We know how you can still save. Vote in our poll and discuss in the forum!

Ahh, finally summer again, sun, sea! Escape the fresh weather in Austria for a few days and let your soul dangle – what more could you want? A trip to Croatia is always worthwhile, even if it is only for a few days. After all, Istria is as close as – but known to be much cheaper than – Italy. Some would even go so far as to say it’s prettier too. The beaches are cleaner, the water is clearer and the cities are less crowded with tourists. And from this year, holidaymakers no longer need to exchange money, because since January 1, the official currency is no longer the kuna, but the euro.

So if you order delicious calamari or freshly prepared lamb with a glass of Primitivo, which is native to Croatia, you will pay in Euros – and on top of that. Because even though the remnants of the kuna are ubiquitous, with the introduction of the new currency, prices are also going up.
