Russia’s telecommunications authority Roskomnadzor is demanding that Amazon and 11 other foreign technology companies open a regional representative office in Germany.
Their names will be added to a corresponding list, which already includes companies like Alphabet, Meta, Apple and Twitter. In 2021, Russia required a total of 13 companies to open an office on Russian soil by the end of the year and threatened restrictions otherwise.
During the invasion, Twitter, Facebook and other services in Russia were blocked. However, others such as Wikipedia, YouTube, Telegram and Zoom remain accessible despite the original threats. There is no statement from Amazon.
