The AMA has tightened its controls and has now excluded more companies than last year. So far there have been 69.
AMA Marketing took the scandalous reports about conditions in slaughterhouses and fertilizer companies as an opportunity and is conducting ten percent more inspections this year. “An AMA quality seal inspection takes place at a company every 30 minutes,” says Christina Mutenthaler-Sipek, head of AMA Marketing. This year – after three quarters – 69 companies were excluded from the program. For comparison: in all of 2022 there were 59 exclusions.
“This certainly also has to do with the thousand extra unannounced checks,” says Mutenthaler-Sipek. However, she emphasizes that the gross grievances leading to the loss of the quality seal “are in the range of a thousand”. There are a total of 41,000 certified companies and in 80 percent of the more than 23,000 inspections there is not even a minor complaint.
Agricultural exports fell significantly in the first half of the year
What is not exactly encouraging for farmers is the current price increase and the reluctance to buy, which is not only noticeable in their own country. The export value increase of 5.9 percent can only be attributed to rising prices; quantities decreased. Moreover, the foreign trade balance is negative by 35 million euros. Yet more tonnes are still exported than imported. This is due to the overproduction of milk and cheese. As a result, a lot of cheap cheese ends up abroad.
