Now Finland is also joining Sweden in the fight against American car manufacturer Tesla. On Thursday, the Finnish trade union AKT announced that they will not ship cars from Elon Musk’s company to Sweden from December 20.
Port workers in Sweden, Norway and Denmark had already taken or announced similar steps. This means that Tesla can effectively no longer transport cars to Sweden.
Danish fund sells Tesla shares
Pressure also increased from other quarters: the Danish fund PensionDanmark said in an email to the Reuters news agency that the fund had sold shares in the group worth around 64 million euros because of Tesla’s position.
The Swedish union IF Metall is fighting for a collective agreement for Tesla mechanics in Sweden; their strike began on October 27. Many other sectors have joined the industrial action with solidarity strikes. The postal service PostNord, among others, refuses to provide license plates to Tesla. According to the strikers, Sweden’s collective bargaining system would be at risk if Tesla gains the upper hand.
US company rejects collective agreements
The American company rejects such contracts and has stated that it will offer better conditions on its own initiative. Musk had written on his news service X about the PostNord strike: “This is insane.” Northern Europe is an important market for Tesla. Norway was the fourth largest market for new car sales last year, while Sweden was the fifth largest.
