It has long been normal at airports for passengers to check in for their own flights; Self-service checkouts are now also becoming widespread at supermarkets, furniture stores and bookstores. Now discounter Hofer also says yes to them.
They want to make shopping as pleasant as possible for customers, but at the same time they also want to tackle the rampant problem of a shortage of employees – Hofer director Horst Leitner puts these two factors in the race when he explains why Hofer is now also opting for self-service checkouts opens.
By 2025, the first 50 branches of the food discounter will have self-service checkouts, which consumers are already familiar with from the Spar or Billa Plus stores. In total, Hofer wants to equip 200 of the current 540 locations with so-called self-checkout stations.
360 branches are already ready for the deposit system
The trading company, which operates from Sattledt, is currently busy preparing for the introduction of the disposable deposit on bottles and cans. 360 branches are already equipped with return machines.
