A handful of activists disrupted the OMV general meeting on Tuesday. The NGO Attac stood with about ten activists in front of the exhibition hall in Vienna, after which three activists caused a commotion in the hall.
Before the start, they chanted their demands for a few minutes, including OMV socialization, before being peacefully escorted out. For the time being, the shareholders present looked relaxed at the events.
Cheers for loud activists, applause for security forces
The mood was less relaxed when, after OMV boss Alfred Stern’s remarks began, another activist disrupted the event with loud bickering. There were boos and unfriendly reactions from the audience.
After a few minutes, the activist was forced out of the room by security forces to the applause of the shareholders, because he did not want to leave voluntarily when chairman of the Supervisory Board Lutz Feldmann asked him to do so.
The bottleneck for Gazprom
There should be no major differences in OMV’s activities, as the partially state-owned company has presented good annual figures. It is expected that the two major shareholders ÖBAG (Republic of Austria) and ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), who together own more than 56 percent, will implement all decisions. At most, tensions may arise when it comes to critical questions about the Austrian gas supply and possible supply stops from Russia’s Gazprom due to lawsuits.
