Sweet, savory and ready meals – prices for the same product are sometimes “salted” in Austria. A shopping basket with 43 identical brand products costs about twelve percent more in Austrian online supermarkets than in German ones.
The AK price monitor is also net more expensive in Austria than in Germany. So if the various sales tax is deducted, the net prices for the shopping cart in Austria are 8.8 percent higher than in Germany.
But how much does one and the same food cost in Austrian and German online stores?
Five price examples (average prices; prices in euros):
About three quarters (31 out of 43) of the foods compared cost more in Austria than in Germany, 11 were on average cheaper in Austria than in the neighboring country and one in both countries cost the same.
