In 2018, the Kronstorf-Hargelsberg business district bought back parts of a building from technology giant Google. It is now clear who has secured space here: drugstore chain dm wants to build a distribution center that will relieve the burden on the Enns branch. It is expected that this will create 300 jobs.
The drugstore chain dm currently has 382 branches in Austria, which are visited by an average of more than 220,000 people every day for shopping. “The continued strong increase in popularity among our customers is pushing our existing distribution center in Enns and the logistics in our group in Austria to the limits of their capabilities,” says Managing Director Stefan Heiglauer.
Expansion options no longer exist in Enns
Because there are no more expansion options at the Enns location and even modernization measures are difficult there because there is no alternative space for the existing logistics, additional space has been sought.
And then they found what they were looking for in Kronstorf. After buying back space from Google in 2018, the Kronstorf-Hargelsberg business district has space available. Part of this has now been secured by DM through construction rights.
The distribution center is expected to be put into use in 2027
What’s next? The planning is quite concrete; The distribution center is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. The company expects to create approximately 300 jobs.
The drugstore chain benefits from the fact that communities have already taken some infrastructure measures for Google. The roads leading to the site have already been cleared of dust. It is still unclear when and whether Google will build its planned data center in Upper Austria.
