Energiewende – Renewables: “We have an implementation problem”

Date:

The e-business is investing billions in expanding wind, water and solar energy if it were built. The energy transition means that Austria will have to increase the amount of electricity from renewable sources by a factor of one and a half by 2030. The e-business wants to do its part and investments of 28 billion euros are in the pipeline.

The energy transition means that Austria will have to increase the amount of electricity from renewable sources by a factor of one and a half by 2030. The e-business wants to do its part and investments of 28 billion euros are in the pipeline.

According to the latest research, 24 project operators are working on 220 projects in the fields of water, wind and photovoltaic energy. But most of them are only “in the planning stage” or exist only as a “concept”, and only a few are under construction. “We have an implementation problem,” admits industry spokesman Michael Strugl (Verbund). “It can only fail because everything takes too long.”

It can sometimes take eight years for a wind turbine to go from planning to commissioning. There is insufficient land available in Austria for power plant projects of this magnitude. “And it won’t work without grid expansion and storage either,” Strugl adds. In any case, people are prepared to invest the profits of the high prices in the energy transition.

Politicians must create the preconditions. The EU wants to reduce certain procedures to one year, Austria is working on an EIA amendment. Electricity will only become cheaper for consumers if the renewable energy is available 24/7 MS

Huge stream of photovoltaic applications
31,000 tickets in one hour – the interest in subsidies for photovoltaic systems is enormous. Demand has tripled compared to last year. Those who have a ticket now must complete their application by next Wednesday.

How much money you get will depend on the individual solar system and maximum power (kilowatt peak, kWP). For the first 10 kWP you will receive 285 euros each, after that a maximum of 250 euros in category B (up to 20 kWP). A record budget of 240 million euros is available for financing. In addition, individual states also support the construction of solar systems.

The previous subsidies are already having an effect: in 2021, according to Photovoltaic Austria, the expansion was doubled and many more were added, especially in Lower Austria and Upper Austria.
