Signa Italy boss Heinz Peter Hager, 65, South Tyrol’s best-known accountant, was placed under house arrest by Italian authorities on Tuesday. The suspicion is: formation of a criminal organization. René Benko is also among the suspects.
He was considered the last real estate speculator governor. Was head of Signa Italia for many years. And he still chairs the board of directors of the Laura Private Foundation, where many observers of Signa’s demise suspect the Benkos’ shadow empire is still worth millions.
The big bang followed on Tuesday morning: Heinz-Peter Hager was placed under house arrest by a special detachment of the Carabinieri and the financial police at the request of the Trent Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Two Signa transactions in sight
According to information from “Krone”, the procedure involves numerous real estate transactions that could also have something to do with politics. Hager is one of a total of 77 suspects in the case, and Benko himself is also on the list of suspects. Apparently, two Signa transactions, including the airport, are also being further investigated by investigators. The presumption of innocence applies.
On Tuesday afternoon, searches continued in the Bolzano area, where Hager runs a large law firm.
