After Russian Gazprom stopped deliveries to Austria in mid-November, the next bang is now coming. OMV is now terminating its long-term supply contract with Gazprom.
OMV terminates its gas supply contract with Russia’s Gazprom. “OMV Gas Marketing & Trading GmbH (OGMT) has just decided to terminate the Austrian supply contract with Gazprom Export (GPE) with immediate effect,” said a press release from gashub.at on Wednesday evening. From OMV’s perspective, Gazprom has committed “fundamental contractual violations” as no natural gas deliveries have taken place under this contract since November 16, 2024, 6 a.m. CET.
The conflict between Russian energy giant Gazprom and Austrian company OMV has become a central point of contention in European energy policy in recent years. The profound changes in the geopolitical landscape, especially Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, have severely strained relations between the two companies.
