Reform postponed – unemployment insurance: Kocher asks for patience

Date:

The unemployment insurance reform announced by the government is still a long way off. The new rules can no longer be presented before the summer, as was the aim of the coalition, Labor and Economy Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) said Tuesday evening. Kocher was confident in the fall.

Although “intensive and very constructive talks” took place in the coalition, the new challenges prevented them from continuing to the same extent – in this context reference was made to inflation and the war in Ukraine. Nevertheless, “a fundamental consensus has been reached on most of the issues involved”.

“In the reform process” are “the design of the active and activating labor market policies, simplifications in the implementation of the AMS, in particular in the application of unemployment benefits and the imposition of sanctions, as well as the conditions under which small additional income is possible”.

However, further analyzes and discussions are needed on the level of benefits and the movement of benefits. However, the unemployment insurance reform should be seen as a total package and not reduced to the level of unemployment benefits, Kocher argued for patience.
