The largest airline in Europe, the Irish Low -Cost Airline Ryanair, strives for more than 200 million passengers for the first time this year. It is said that about seven million come from Austria. The number of routes in this country in the summer flight scheme was increased by five to 92. Because the airport of Vienna-Schwechat is too expensive, according to chef Michael O’Leary the focus is on the regional airports.
The desire to travel is unbroken worldwide. At the same time, the subject “looking at the money” plays a greater role in people than before. A perfect combination for Ryanair -boss Michael O’Leary to promote the growth of his cheap airline. For the first time this year, more than 200 million passengers are expected, before the Corona crisis it was “only” 148 million. This not only knew the number one in Europe for the Lufthansa group with AUA, Swiss & Co., but also clearly the growth winner.
Cheap pilot increased vigorously
The aviation airline also increases strongly in Austria every year. The Guest Plus has been 160 percent since 2019. The AUA was only one percent, it is said. In total, Ryanair wants to welcome more than seven million guests in the airports of Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt for the first time. Most of them with 6.7 million in the federal capital. “In general, this means 130,000 extra seats for the three regional airports,” adds Andreas Gruber, Ryanair Country Manager in Austria.
For the summer flight schedule, the routes were again raised by five to 92. Three new destinations are in the Linz (Bari, London, Alicante) program and a new route from Salzburg (Alicante) or Vienna (Salerno).
Criticism of high costs in Vienna
The growth in Vienna can be much greater if the costs were not that high. This year, the airport of Vienna has again increased the costs by 5 percent, O’Leary criticizes. In international comparison, air traffic costs to Germany are the second highest in the EU in Germany. The first result was the Ryanair fleet stationed in Vienna therefore reduced by a plane to 18 machines.
At the same time, the range of cheaper regional airports is being expanded. The lower costs are probably one of the main reasons why Ryanair is also flying for the first time in the summer of Linz.
Ticket costs brakes growth from Ryanair in Austria
O’Leary also shoots against the ticket delivery in Austria of 12 euros per passenger. If the future government does not have to abolish the tax, only “very little” will grow in this country. At the same time, the airline’s boss promises an increase of 50 percent in Austria until 2030 if the air traffic tax is removed. Countries such as Sweden, Hungary and partly also Italy have already recovered and have again eliminated the tax.
Ticket prices stable to rise slightly
With regard to the development of ticket prices, consumers can adapt to stable to somewhat rising prices. Last year the prices fell surprisingly by 8 percent.
