End customers should dress warmly. A real price tsunami for electricity and gas threatens in the autumn. Politicians in Vienna seem to be at a loss.
In Burgenland the sparrows are whistling from the roof. The massive price hikes in electricity and gas that have already taken place are likely to be followed by the next price hammer in the fall. An increase for end users of up to 180 percent. This would nearly triple the financial burden on customers and end users.
The head of state of Burgenland, Hans-Peter Doskozil (SPÖ), is therefore considering withdrawing from the joint energy alliance with Vienna and Lower Austria. Only in this way can the boss from Eisenstadt prevent the price tsunami from sweeping over his compatriots.
But what does that mean for the Viennese? A few saving tips from Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (“Bleed the radiators”, “Close the windows”) will not suffice.
Viennese economic councilor Peter Hanke (SPÖ) does not want to touch the hot potato.
He has Wien Energie answer the question “Krone”: “We cannot understand this information about price increases. The market is very volatile and difficult to predict. We cannot say today what the situation will be in the fall. You can hardly put it more vague. Put on warm clothes!
