In the municipality of Andau in Burgenland, the cracking of old houses is now supported. This is intended to create living space for families. The measure also offers benefits for the place itself.
The municipality of Andau goes its own way when it comes to living space. Instead of repeating new building sites to make up for an expensive money, the location now relates to a “demolition financing”. For the demolition of old houses, in which a renovation no longer pays, the owners receive support from the community.
Promotion for a maximum of 300 tons of debris
In particular, it enables support to fulfill debris and concrete cancellation to many 300 tons at the local landfill. Everyone who exceeds the limit then pays a lowered rate.
Removal must be paid in advance
This is possible because as a municipality you have your own landfill, mayor Philipp Pelzer explain. The financing is valid afterwards on January 1, 2025 and runs for two years. You can use all individuals who have an object in the community. To prevent abuse for speculative purposes, the support of conditions is linked. The applicant must first be paid for the removal. Only when the latest control of the new house is successful and there is a main residence message that there is money from the community.
Andau mainly wants to help young families create their own house. The construction costs are still high and the purchase of an old building is not necessarily cheap, says Pelzer. The measure also offers benefits for the community itself. Instead of catching up with the edge of the suburbs, the city center is strengthened. Especially since the community is limited in the areas.
Don’t worry about walking
The mayor does not believe that if a side effect, the inflow of movement can increase. This is also not the purpose of financing, says Pelzer. He is also not worried that the older population can mourn the old buildings. “The older generation also knows that a new house in which someone lives is better than an old house where nobody lives,” explains the local chef.
