“Room Up” – Own renewable energy for this year

Date:

Austria has used all renewable energy that is produced purely mathematically on Friday 30 May. For the rest of the year, fossil energy such as natural gas, oil and coal must now be used.

According to the Austrian energy agency, 41 percent of energy requirements are currently being treated in Austria of renewable sources such as water, wind, sun and biomass. There are major differences between the different sectors, said Franz Anger, director of Energy Agency. Renewable energies are already 88 percent in electricity production, but only 40 in the heating area and 13 percent in public transport.

There is still room in the wind energy, especially with technology, which can also supply sufficient renewable electricity in the winter. In addition to the expansion, “the right system is needed: networking, memory, flexibility,” said Günter Pauritsch of the Energy Agency.

Photovoltaic challenges networks
“The most dynamic photovoltaic continues to grow: if the annual PV expansion was still 341 MW in 2020, it increased enormously in the coming years, it was more than 2,200 MW in 2023 and 2024, and this will also continue in 2025.

The output of gas and oil heating is also progressing, which increases the sale of heat pumps. The energy agency sees the need for action, especially in the compacted urban area and in Unanimated buildings.

By Friday, May 30, Austria has used up all the renewable energy produced in the country. “Today’s deadline makes clear how great our dependence on fossil energies is still. At the same time we see considerable progress in individual areas,” summarized anger. Climate neutrality is “technically possible and economically sensible”.
