Work 7 of the Vorarlberg Group Blum in Dornbirn receives a second track for his rail connection. When renovating the existing system, the coating manufacturer trusts sustainability and prepares old building material again.
Together with Rhomberg Bau, the Blum Company De Stöcken Connecting Track runs at work 7 in Dornbirn to transport goods directly to the Wolfurt terminal and from there. At present, eight cars and therefore 16 pieces of freight containers of 40-foot more can be treated per day over 210 meters of rail length. About 35 percent of the Blum products are already transported to customers on the rail. In this way, around 100,000 tons of building materials also reach the “Rhine Valley Resources” of Rhomberg Bau.
The suspension manufacturer is now expanding the capacities: with a second track, the length is almost doubled to a total of 410 meters. The expansion does not only increase the transport volume. In addition to the usual containers, it is possible to load truck fixings and so-called exchanges (WAB) for road and rail transport in addition to the usual containers. “In the long term, this brings more flexibility in our logistics,” explains Gerhard Schapeler, member of the management.
Second Life for Gravel Substructure and Rails
The existing track will be removed for the conversion and the substructure will be renewed. Here too, Blum relies on sustainability: a large part of the gravel structure is washed and prepared so that it can be reused. The old rails are also used again. The new number is laid parallel to the existing as mat. This means that the rails are embedded in the way and are therefore passable.
Biogas -driven shuttles in use for Wolfurt
The construction started on 3 June, the completion is planned for the end of October. During this time the containers are moved with trucks between Dornbirn and Wolfurt. Blum uses the in -house, biogas -driven shuttles and also works with a house freight. During the construction phase, the extra truck traffic can occasionally lead to a handicap in the area.
