Date:

A mayor was killed in her office in South -Mexico. Four armed men stormed the town hall and shot the woman and another officer.

On Sunday, the crime scene was the city council building in the small Mexican town of San Mateo Piñas in the state of Oaxaca. The four armed men came to the office of Mayor Lilia García and shot her and another officer.

The Governor of Oaxaca, Salomon Jara, expressed his indignation on social media and explained: “There can be no impunity in this law.”

Only two weeks ago, five police officers were killed in the adjacent state of Chiapa in an attack. The state officials were ambushed, said the Governor Eduardo Ramírez at the time (see items below). The local security authority said it used more than 1000 officials to “observe the situation and to guarantee safety in the region”.

According to the authorities, the attack took place in the city of Frontera Comalapa near the border with Guatemala. The police officers were therefore on a patrol when they were attacked by an armed group. The official’s car can be seen in a photo published by the authorities.
