Looks like an energy drink, but it’s “just” water! The Starzinger Group from Frankenmarkt (Upper Austria) fills still and sparkling water into 500 milliliter cans for the American brand “Liquid Death”, which in turn is shaking up the drinks market in America as “water from the Alps”.
“Our mission is to help people drink more water and reduce plastic waste,” says Liquid Death. In any case, the case of the American company is not inconspicuous: a skull adorns the water jugs that are filled on the Frankenmarkt.
All top secret
Because: The Starzinger Group acts as a bottler for the American brand. How did the deal come about? Patrick Moser, general manager of the family business from Upper Austria, which is well known for its Schartner Bombe brand, dismisses it: “Due to confidentiality clauses, I cannot give further details.”
“Trend drink” from the Alps
In any case, the water is already sold in the US in at least five varieties – still and sparkling, plus there are three different flavors. A 500 milliliter can is sold in US supermarkets for $1.69, which is equivalent to $1.67. According to ORF correspondent Christophe Kohl, Liquid Death is a “trendy drink” in the US: “In clubs, water from the Austrian Alps can cost five dollars and more,” Kohl tweeted.
