Disaster in the Mölltal – storm: “We experienced a night of horror”

Date:

The next Carinthian place was hit by a storm. Several houses in the Mölltal were destroyed.

Huge mudslides swept through Stall in Mölltal – especially the village of Latzendorf – a trail of destruction on Tuesday night. “Ten houses are under water and the Mölltal state road is completely buried,” Stalls mayor Peter Ebner said of the horror night.

A Dutch family was hit particularly hard. She had bought a house there six weeks ago. “It was the second night in our new holiday home,” says Paul Maatkamp, shocked. “We have never experienced anything like this. We watched as the bodies of water shot past the house. They came higher and higher.” Then the mud, which came in full force with the Latzendorcher Bach, entered the house. The family fled to the first floor.

Meanwhile, the mudslides wiped out several cars outside
“Three vehicles and their occupants were trapped in the mudslides. They were all very lucky and were able to get out of the cars unharmed,” said firefighter Richard Pichler. All roads were washed and torn away, and a bridge leading to farms was destroyed. “Cleaning up will take weeks,” the mayor said.

The Pöllatal in Rennweg was also not spared from the storm. Debris and mudslides displaced and damaged the roadway. Clearance work in full swing. “But the valley is open to visitors again,” said Mayor Franz Aschbacher.
