Amazon, the e-commerce giant, has agreed to acquire iRobot, the maker of the popular Roomba vacuum cleaner, for $1,700 million, including the company’s debt. Specifically, Amazon will pay $61 cash for each iRobot share, which is a 22% premium to the company’s closing price in Thursday’s session and values iRobot at about $1.7 billion. .
As reported by the company, Colin Angle will remain CEO of iRobot once the operation is completed. “For many years, the iRobot team has proven that it can reinvent the way people clean with products that are incredibly useful and ingenious,” said Dave Limp, Vice President of Amazon Devices.
