Vienna’s most expensive – despite crisis: millions of rain for chamber officials

Date:

While many companies are suffering from the multiple crises, federal and state chambers paid out more than $24 million to their political officials last year alone. Mostly the Viennese. The backgrounds.

The Chamber of Commerce is undoubtedly fighting for the concerns of the companies. But the obligatory contributions from companies also serve a lavish device, especially in Vienna. The federal and state chambers distributed more than 24.6 million euros to their officials last year alone, as the Greens show.

Civil servants are the representatives of the political factions, not the regular employees of the House. They are elected for five years and receive an expense allowance. In return: attend meetings, maybe a few outside appointments, mostly voluntary.

Despite Corona and Co. there seems to be no sign of a crisis in this protected world. The Viennese (see chart above) spent the most. Reason: Although the WKW has the largest number of members of all federal states, it also has eight (!) Vice-Presidents. They each collect about 2700 euros per month. Including an 80-year-old who falls completely below the public perception threshold.

The Vienna Chamber defends itself: “With 140,000 members, the Vienna Chamber of Commerce as the largest state chamber has the most compared to other federal states and therefore also the most specialized organizations.” In addition to their entrepreneurial activities, the officials would invest “a lot of time” in their chamber activities. “There is a fee for that, which must then be taxed.”

In addition, there are about 50 department heads (about 3000 euros/month) and their deputies (about 1500 months) and just as many department chairmen (about 1500 euros) together with their deputies (about 760 euros).

With numbers like this, chambers in both federal and state governments are extremely cautious. You can hardly find them anywhere online.

The green economy regularly publishes the amounts. Federal spokeswoman Sabine Jungwirth: “We are the only group that ensures transparency.” This should prevent the room from becoming a self-service shop and officials giving themselves orders.
