The public channel is preparing ‘Incredible Duets’, a format presented by Juan y Medio and featuring singers such as Ana Belén or Miguel Poveda
Live music is a pending issue on our television. Bringing great artists to a set is a rarity these days. For example, the matinees have been stripped of music for the past ten years. Hectic current affairs, politics, events or the heart dominate the entire runway. Music is relegated to new talent shows that replicate well-known hits from the past. However, the new bet of La 1 de TVE aims to restore the great musical show live and in prime time.
‘Incredible duos’, the new program produced by RTVE in collaboration with Grupo Ganga (‘Cuéntame’, ‘HIT’), will be a contest of songs performed by duos blindly formed by singers of different generations and will arrive this fall on ‘ prime time” from the public chain. Established artists and new talents will “play the hits and songs that have been part of us for decades, based on creativity and artistic freedom.”
It will be presented by an experienced presenter, Juan y Medio, who returns to national television after being successful on Canal Sur since 2009, helping the elderly fight loneliness. TVE’s new bet takes place on a set with a live orchestra and band, with a main stage of 1,500 square meters and almost 1,000 other adjacent spaces, rehearsal rooms and rest areas where the performers can prepare their songs, alone or with their partners, and their discuss interpretations and emotions.
For example, ‘Incredible duos’ bring experience and youth together on one set. For the team of eight established artists, the program has drawn figures such as Ana Belén, Miguel Poveda, Ainhoa Arteta, Víctor Manuel, Sole Giménez, Antonio Carmona, Diego Torres and Carlos Goñi, from the band Revólver. They form duos with one of the youngest artists – the junior group – consisting of Antonio José, Nía, Agoney, La Cebolla, Marta Soto, Yoly Saa, Chema Rivas and Paul Alone. The new format promises that the international mix will “achieve amazing versions of the most classic songs and achieve original interpretations of more recent hits”.
“It’s a chance to have fun and surprise myself singing with another generation,” says Ana Belén, returning to the small screen and music, countries she has dominated for decades. The singer will share the poster with Víctor Manuel, her husband for over fifty years. “I hope to have fun, to be excited and to feel alive. That things happen that eventually people take; that they are experience of personal and professional life,” says Miguel Poveda before recording one of the deliveries.
Agoney, on the other hand, wants to “rediscover” herself by participating in the program. “I find that there are songs that I would never have considered singing, and that when I start they are better than I imagined,” emphasizes the former ‘Operación Triunfo’ contestant. For singer-songwriter Yoly Saa, ‘Incredible Duos’ is “a great opportunity to learn from veterans”.
The competition does not have a jury that judges and decides the performances. The audience on set decides with their votes, live, which duos remain and which are eliminated, and let the winners determine the winners through the rankings. The program has a first phase in which the singers will have to form eight musical couples without seeing each other’s faces and guided only by their vocal qualities. Once formed, they will compete against each other, until they reach the battles, where the two teams meet and the eliminations begin.
