Antena 3 wins in August and Telecinco drops to worst historical result

Date:

La 1 also equals the monthly minimum (8.1%) while La 2 gets its best data since 2010

Antena 3 was again the most watched television in August with a viewer rate of 13.4%, two tenths less than in July, but the distance from its main competitor, Telecinco, grew. That of Mediaset is looking forward to the arrival of the new season to launch its premieres and the return of its star presenters, for a black summer month in which they have pierced all their summer bets, such as ‘Tonight I win’, presented by Christian Gálvez and Carolina Cerezuela , or the foreign fictions ‘CSI: Vegas’ or ‘Blanca’. With an 11% share, the Fuencarral chain registered the lowest audience in its entire history. It was not until 1990, the year in which it started broadcasting and the channel was still unknown to the public, that the results were worse.

On the contrary, in Atresmedia they celebrate the victory of their main channel with euphoria. Antena 3 led for the tenth consecutive month, extending its best historical run and winning every day of the month. It also reached the milestone by hitting the 133 most-watched broadcasts in August. It leads in the after-dinner, afternoon and prime-time slots (Telecinco expires in the morning and the paid themes on “late night”), in addition to being the most watched television by women and adults over the age of 45. It conquers all autonomous communities, except in the Basque Country and the Canary Islands, where its competitor wins, according to data from Barlovento Comunicación.

It was also not a good month for TVE’s La 1. Audiences changed programming in the last few days to avoid the historic minimum and ended August with an audience of 8.1%, which equals the worst monthly figure, and placed behind the series of regional televisions (8.6%). That is four tenths less than in July.

In the company, however, they get better news from the second TVE channel. La 2 placed its monthly average at 3.4%; the best result in twelve years (August 2010). An important achievement, in times of television fragmentation and changes in the consumption model, which has come about thanks to bets such as ‘El Commissioner Montalbano’, which easily exceeds 6% every Tuesday in ‘prime time’.

In the lower part of the table, La Sexta lagged with a viewership share of 5.2% (the lowest figure since 2012) and Cuatro improved its figure for the past month by a tenth, rising to 4.9% in August. In the DTT ranking, Mediaset reached the podium and Energy reached the first position for the first time with 2.9%. It is followed by FDF (2.7%), Divinity (2.6%) and TRECE (2.3%).

In the news, ‘Antena 3 Noticias’ took the leadership in all editions (19.3%), ahead of ‘Informativos Telecinco’ (12%) and ‘Telediario’ (9.8%).

Total television consumption per person was 2 hours and 35 minutes, 13% less than in the same period last year. It is the month of August with the lowest television consumption in the past 25 years.
