The festival will be held from November 4-13 and will have nearly fifty shows and features planned
From November 4 to 13, Murcia will host one of the most outstanding events on its autumn cultural agenda, the ‘Titeremurcia’ festival, which will celebrate its twenty-first edition this year with fifty activities and two novelties, the restoration of the international presence and the return of the school campaign, municipal sources said in a statement.
The International Puppet Festival of the Region of Murcia was presented this Tuesday in the Hall of Mirrors of the Romea Theater by the Director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts of the Region of Murcia, Manuel Cebrián; the Councilor for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Pedro García Rex, and the President of Unima Murcia and Director of Titeremurcia, Ángel Salcedo.
For García Rex, “this is excellent news for Murcia, as this festival, after years of restrictions, returns this time in all its essence, with a very complete and high-quality agenda that will fill the cultural and public spaces of the municipality with proposals for the whole family.
The mayor noted that the city of Murcia “is the main sponsor of an event that fulfills an important educational function”.
The ICA, for its part, participates in this initiative with a grant and with the transfer of the Párraga Center and the Francisco Rabal Regional Film Library to carry out the programmed activities, as explained by the Community in a press release.
Cebrián indicated that “these centers will become the headquarters of Titeremurcia, within the framework of the alliance with the theater festivals of the Murcia region, which is included in the ICA strategy to support the performing arts.”
This strategy foresees “numerous financing actions”, as “the Autonomous Community has allocated almost €3 million in aid this year to improve infrastructure and encourage professionals in the cultural sector”, Cebrián said.
The program of the twenty-first edition of Titeremurcia has a total of 20 shows with a total of 45 performances, plus two workshops and two films. This is a selection made by the Unima Murcia Artistic Committee and includes shows awarded by the industry’s leading competitions.
After the restrictions caused by the pandemic, the festival is regaining its international presence with the visit of four companies from Italy, the Czech Republic and Mexico. They will share the program with an additional eleven national companies from Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon, Valencia and the Basque Country and four from the Murcia region.
Another novelty that returns to Titeremurcia in this edition is the historic school campaign. More than twenty educational centers will visit the theater with their students, allowing more than 1,200 schoolchildren between the ages of 3 and 9 to enjoy the three shows selected for their great artistic quality and educational value.
There will be 25 spaces participating in this edition to which Murcia will contribute its five municipal auditoriums (Guadalupe, La Alberca, Algezares, Beniaján and Cabezo de Torres) and its three theaters (Bernal, Romea and Circo). In addition, Títeremurcia will be located in the city’s squares and gardens, as well as in the cultural centers of Corvera and Santo Ángel.
In the 21st edition of ‘Titeremurcia’, the presence of several works that have won prizes and recognition for their quality stands out. Among them, the show ‘Cris, small brave’ by the company El Espejo Negro, which won the 2022 Performing Arts Award for Best Children’s, Youth or Family Show, as well as the 2021 FETEN Award for Best Show and the Special Award from the Jury at the Palma Performing Arts Fair 2021, among other awards.
Also noteworthy is the presence of the company Anita Maravillas in the Teatro Circo de Murcia with its performance ‘Las Cotton’, a moving performance that tells the struggle of women in the textile industry at the beginning of the 20th century. The show has won the 2021 FETEN Award for Best Puppet Show, the Drac D’Or Best Scenography at the 33rd Fira de Titelles de Lérida and has been a finalist for the Max 2022 Awards for Best New Author and Best Family Show.
‘The (little) Moby Dick’ will get stuck in that same space, which brackets are not enough due to its large size. A dramatized installation featuring a giant doll that earned Eudald Ferré the 2021 Award for Best Scenography at the Lleida Puppet Theater Fair.
The Italian company La Baracca is coming to Murcia with the show ‘A story upside down’, awarded the FETEN Award 2022 for the best children’s show and the jury prize 2019 at the Spectaculo Interest Festival in Ostrava, Czech Republic. This work can be seen in the Cabezo de Torres Auditorium and is also one of the works featured in the school campaign.
The show ‘Vida’, by its creator Javier Aranda, repeats itself at the festival with its story made with only two hands and a basket that will leave no one indifferent and which won the Best Theater Show Award at the XXXI Huesca International Fair 2018, the FETÉN Award for Best Small Format Show 2018, the Drac D’or Julieta Agustí Award for Best Show, the Award for Best Show of the International Jury and the Award for Best Show of the Jury of the Fira de Titelles Lérida 2018.
Organized by the UNIMA Murcia Association, the Titeremurcia Festival receives the main sponsorship from the Municipal Council of Murcia, through the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports, followed by the Region of Murcia, through the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts of the Region of Murcia; from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, through INAEM, and the Estrella de Levante Foundation.
