The Italian Ministry of Health has recommended a new booster injection against the coronavirus for patients at risk and people over 80 who have already received the second booster injection. A corresponding vaccination campaign must be prepared, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday. The fifth corona vaccination dose is recommended for people over 80 years of age, for residents of retirement homes and at-risk patients over 60 years of age.
Despite the currently stable corona situation, the Ministry of Health assumes that the virus will periodically return to circulation.
‘Must be prepared for a worse scenario’
The most likely scenario is one in which the virus remains active but has less impact through adequate immunization. But you also have to be prepared for a worse scenario and then be able to offer a large-scale vaccination campaign.
To date, 12,366 vaccinations have been carried out in Austria on Monday, of which 11,351 booster vaccinations (4th, 5th and each subsequent vaccination dose). A total of 958,205 people have received a booster vaccination to date.
