Two journalists arrested for allegedly participating in vandalism in Prado

Date:

They are also charged with two separate crimes for property damage and public order alteration, as well as the material authors, who were also arrested.

Two more women, a journalist and another student, were arrested this Sunday for allegedly participating in the organization of the vandalism in the ‘Las Majas’ hall of the Prado Museum that two environmental activists from the organization Futuro Vegetal carried out on Saturday. The authors have already been arrested after committing this action against the national cultural heritage, according to police sources.

After reviewing the images from the museum’s security cameras and making statements by several witnesses, who indicated the same sources, it turned out that the two detainees also participated in the organization of the vandalism. Both are accused as perpetrators of crimes for material damage and public order, although in the case of the former this may be due to the necessary cooperation.

As confirmed by the journalist’s lawyer, both she and the student were on site to report on the action of the activists who stuck their hands to the frames of the paintings ‘La maja naked’ and ‘La maja ropa’. They had him write the message ‘+1.5º’ on the wall to ‘warn of the rise in global temperature which will cause an unstable climate and serious consequences for the entire planet’.

The detainees have been held at the Arganzuela Police Station (Madrid) since their arrest. Her lawyer told the media ‘El Salto’, where both work together, that she hopes they will go to court on Monday to be handed over to the court.
