Cartagena presents its honorary prize to the Conservatory of Music

Juan Manuel Díaz Burgos, Jaime Cros, Silvia Conesa and María Teresa Cervantes, among the winners of the City Council Culture Awards, in the second edition, to be awarded in 2023

The winners of the second edition of the Cartagena City Council Culture Awards have already been announced. The purpose of this call is to recognize and distinguish the work of people or entities that contribute in an outstanding way to the enrichment of the cultural life of the municipality, according to the basis of the call, where the proposals of the committees of the Council of Culture. During its meeting this week, the jury selected the following winners:

Honor award: Music Conservatory of Cartagena. It was founded in April 1925 and inaugurated in 1928. Since then, the institution has actively participated in the musical and cultural life of Cartagena and the Region of Murcia. Hundreds of musicians trained in this house of music work all over the world.

prize for visual arts: Juan Manuel Diaz Burgos. Passionate about photography since childhood. In 2001, he founded the Historical Photographic Center of the Region of Murcia (CEHIFORM), which he coordinated until 2007. He produces personal photographic work without ties. Collect over 600 national awards.

Prize for visual arts: Silvia Conesa. Cartagenera, actress, director and screenwriter. He has worked in theater and television. In 2017, he founded the production company ‘Gerion Films’, especially dedicated to the fantastic genre. He has made 8 short films.

Literature Prize: Maria Teresa Cervantes. Fighting woman in the face of countless misfortunes. He lived between Germany and France for several years. In 1961, some of his works were already translated into Arabic by the Moroccan poet Mohammad Sabbag. It is included in the Anthology of Spanish Female Poetry (Editorial Bruguera, Barcelona, ​​​​​​1975), produced by Carmen Conde. Of the many awards, the bronze medal for arts, sciences and letters (Palais de la Mutualité, Paris, 1963) stands out.

music award: Choir Tomás Luis de Victoria. Consolidated as a choir in the spring of 1946. It has taken its repertoire all over Spain and also Italy, Belgium, Germany, France and Andorra. Of the various awards he has received, the Cartagena Gold Medal (1997) stands out.

Heritage Promotion Award: Virgin or Charity Citizen Platform. It was built in the year 2000 on a non-profit basis. In 2002 they organized the ‘II Conference on Heritage: The Cathedral of the Diocese of Cartagena’ and in 2003 they published the book ‘Santa María la Mayor, Catedral de Cartagena’.

Prize for research and scientific culture: Collective Adult Education ‘Carmen Conde’. An association of public social initiative, dedicated to the training of adults in the field of scientific dissemination and cultural dissemination since 1973.

Award for traditional and community culture: Folkloric group of the city of Cartagena. In their performances, the group wears clothes that existed in the Spanish southeast in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. His awards include: The Palme d’Or and in 2009 he was chosen by the readers of LA VERDAD as one of the ten ‘Best of Cartagena in the last 50 years’.

performing arts award: Jaime Cross. His life is professionally and professionally dominated by radio and theater. He was director of Radio Mar Menor, Onda Cero Cartagena and Onda Cero Castellón. He founded two publishing companies.

Prize for diversity and interculturality: Community of the Little Sisters of the Assumption. Founded in 1865 in France, by Esteban Pernet, Assumptionist, and Antoinette FAGE. They are present in more than 20 countries. They are working for a more fraternal and just world.

The jury is composed in this second edition by the Councilor for the Area of ​​Culture, Youth and Equality, David Martínez Noguera; the councilor for culture, Carlos Piñana; City Council Culture Director, Fulgencia Plazas; the coordinator of Culture, Patricio Hernández; the representatives of the Council of Culture, Belén Valera and Myriam Ortas, and the journalist Manuel Madrid, Head of Culture at LA VERDAD. The official of the Department of Culture, Paloma Fernández, acted as secretary.
