Two stories about love and respect for animals

Date:

Juan Jorganes and Virginia García will present the first two titles of the bilingual short story collection ‘La gata Fidela’ at BRMU this afternoon

«Anyone who approaches the book will be captivated», says Juan Jorganes, author of ‘La gata Fidela’, of Virginia García’s illustrations that accompany his work: «They are extraordinarily rich in nuances, colors, perspectives… and They do not limit themselves to only accompanying the text, but also recreate it with an extraordinary quality and color,” the writer emphasizes.

With ‘La gata Fidela’ and ‘Fidela y la ensaladilla’ (Ediciones Valnera), Juan Jorganes, secondary school teacher, essayist and poetry writer, delves into the world of children’s literature. Although they are aimed at children, the content is suitable for all audiences. They are designed for family reading,” says the author of the first two installments of a series of five, which will be presented this afternoon at 6 p.m. at the Regional Library of Murcia. There he will be accompanied by the illustrator Virginia García and the editor, Jesús Herrán.

Two stories published in a bilingual edition, in Spanish and English – translation by Ana Herrán, with the supervision of Joanna Franklin – because “it is a way to enjoy the book while learning and getting the most out of reading”. In addition, each of the books has a song whose Spanish and English versions have been set to music by Ana Herrán and can be listened to through the access provided by a QR code.

«The idea of writing this series of books comes from real life living with a cat. I found it fun and evocative to try to translate the encounter between the girl and the cat into a story,” says the Cantabrian author who lives in Murcia.

Two books that tell “everyday things” because “they are stories that have no moral other than the love you can have with an animal, respect, affection and how to enjoy life with a living being”. The stories contain a main message: “We share Mother Earth with beings who have accompanied us since our existence and have given us much, including affection and respect for each other’s environment. For children it is an extraordinary learning of communication, care, attention…».

“Juan and I have known each other for a long time and he liked my work, so he wanted me to do the illustrations,” says Virginia García.

“I like that people find ‘something’ in my work and the word that is usually repeated is tenderness,” says the cartoonist, who likes to add “a touch of humor and my subtleties” to the drawings. The artist and also a teacher has illustrated, among other things, the collection ‘Ratón Blanco learns to make friends’ by Blas Miras; ‘Matilda Smells Like Death’, by Gloria García Carreras; and ‘Samba and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice’, by Mila Ruiz, and considers that in these formats “languages associate to create a universe”. On this occasion “a beautiful, simple story that makes us think about how important pets are.”

Presentation of the bilingual books ‘La gata Fidela and ‘Fidela y la ensaladilla’. Today at 6 p.m. Regional Library. Murcia.
