Check whether your car can drive in the low-emission zones from 2023

Date:

Only cars with the ECO label and ZERO emissions can access, circulate and park

With the new low emission zones that
will come into effect in January In 2023, only the newest and least polluting cars will be allowed to drive freely in urban centers. And it is that only cars with the ECO label (green and blue) -usually hybrids, gas vehicles or both- and ZERO Emissions label (blue) -electric and plug-in hybrids- can enter, circulate and park without restrictions in the LEZ.

Cars labeled C (green) – petrol registered from January 2006 and diesel from September 2015 – and cars labeled B (yellow) – petrol registered from 1 January 2001 and diesel from 2006 – they will be allowed in all LEZs of any city, although municipal parking restrictions can be introduced gradually – especially in the case of label B -, as in Madrid Central, where it is mandatory to park in a regulated car park before leaving the area.

The rest of the vehicles
the most polluting and named A – pre-2001 petrol and pre-2006 diesel – are not entitled to any type of badge as they do not meet the requirements to be labeled a clean vehicle and are the most restricted.

cars
they cannot circulate without an environmental label by the low emission zones demarcated by the municipal councils, although there are already exceptions to this rule in Madrid and Barcelona related to the fact that the vehicle belongs to a resident of the area, is adapted for people with reduced mobility, etc. .

In short, all motorists know that it is important to be aware of the traffic restrictions during this holiday season and we are eagerly preparing to also see how each city government manages its ZBE in the
149 municipalities that must have it next January 1.

Areas in which each city government will specify the restrictions with which it applies the common areas to reduce traffic and limit access to the most polluting vehicles.

It is known that these zones will have the new identifying traffic sign, as well as that the access, circulation and parking restrictions in these low emission zones will be defined on the basis of the DGT environmental labels, which measure the polluting potential of the vehicles according to their motorization and their registration years.
