Why ‘all season’ are the best winter tyres

Date:

They are specially designed to work in conditions below 10ºC and between 30ºC and maximum 40ºC, because they have a special composition

If there’s one season of the year that forces us to pay even more attention to our vehicle’s tires, it’s winter. At this time of the year, the weather conditions are more unfavorable: rain, wind, ice, fog or even snow can occur on any journey, be it short or long. It is therefore important to adapt our vehicle to these new conditions in order to deal safely with these situations of less grip.

In this sense, the National Association of Tire Distributors and Importers (Adine) recommends two possible alternatives: first, replace traditional summer tires with winter tyres, or with the so-called “all season”, “all weather” or “mixed”.

As the name implies, all season tires are called
suitable for the four seasons of the year. This allows them to be used every day of the year, both in summer and winter, guaranteeing grip on the asphalt in all conditions.

The ‘all season’ are the tyres
most versatile on the marketgiven that they perform well in high summer temperatures and offer excellent performance in cold conditions with slippery road surfaces due to snow, ice and/or water, and are an ideal alternative for safe winter driving.

In addition, they are specifically designed to operate in conditions below 10ºC and between 30ºC and a maximum of 40ºC, as they have a special composition.

The ‘all season’ tires also have a specific design that facilitates this
better water drainage -the profile is 8.5 to 9.5 mm, as opposed to summer tires with a profile of about 6.5 to 7.5 mm- and a series of sipes that allow more grip on damp, snowy and wet surfaces and better resistance are more resistant to aquaplaning than summer tyres.

As a virtue, like winter tires, they are
approved to circulate without chains as long as it bears the inscription ‘M+S’ on the side, as well as a symbol in the shape of a mountain with three peaks and a snowflake inside.

It should also be noted that the main advantage of ‘all season’ tires is that they prevent drivers from having 2 sets of tires to adapt to the weather conditions, but with the same practical result they would get if they did. In this way, they avoid not only buying two sets of tyres, but also assembly and disassembly work and finding a suitable place to store summer tires in winter and winter tires in summer.
