Premieres “The circle of celebrities” (Antena 3), where celebrities who are experts in a subject advise the contestant to earn money
A colossal moving circle in the center with spinning seats around it is the star of the new Antena 3 match for Wednesday’s prime time. The series premieres tonight at 10:40 pm in ‘El círculo de los famosos’, the Spanish adaptation of ‘The Weel’, an international success arriving in Spain after being the revelation format in the UK and in its versions in the US , Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. At the head of the project is Juanra Bonet (48 years old, Barcelona), who, after more than eight years of ‘Boom!’ returned to the small screen in the afternoons of the main Atresmedia channel.
In this new program, the host will be the master of ceremonies of a room that will feature more than fifty different celebrities throughout the season with a clear goal: to help anonymous contestants answer the questions and win the prize final. Each episode will feature seven different celebrities, each expert in a different category.
The football player Pepe Reina, the actor Antonio Resines, the presenter Lorena Castell, the actresses Adriana Torrebejano and Adriana Abenia, the designer Lorenzo Caprile and the presenter Boris Izaguirre will be the first seven celebrities who will advise the participants of ‘El círculo of the famous’ and show the public what their hidden talent is.
–Did you walk a lot in this new program?
–The set is round and that circle turns. You feel like running, jumping and dancing, because there is a lot of music. Ultimately, the mood and tone of the show encourages you to move, and I don’t know why I did. It didn’t work in the English version. I don’t know if they’ve done something similar in other editions of the contest in other countries. Maybe I was a hamster in another life, because I started spinning around and around… I also remember Poty happily giving me some dance lessons.
–What novelty does this match bring to the television scene?
–The tone is very special because celebrities are totally relaxed and uninhibited, without the thrill of having to compete against someone because they don’t form teams. The seven popular characters will support the participants and that is very reassuring. It’s also really fun to see every celebrity defending a category; some you expect and others you don’t. And the dish is spectacular and crazy. It is very nice because you can play with it a lot. It’s for the whole family.
–Which celebrity has surprised you the most because of their specialty in a specific category?
–For example, there is a person we are used to seeing in certain specific artistic contexts and suddenly he tells us: ‘I am an expert in ufology, in UFOs’. Or other guests who have also opted for home cleaning; or people who are passionate about Greek mythology and the Kennedys. There are many surprises that you do not expect.
–What do you think the Spanish version can contribute to such an international format?
I couldn’t tell you specifically. The only reference I’ve had, for linguistic reasons, was the English version of the contest. For example, I was not able to see the Dutch. We don’t discover the experts at the beginning, but we let the contestant play to guess who is the famous person who is passionate about a topic. It is not a binding decision, as it will be announced later, but it gave life to the program.
-You are a distributor of money in television contests. How are you?
–I think what we like best as contest presenters is the opportunity to hand out prizes and watch the contestants win them. I have a boy point from San Ildefonso with a beard.
– Do you miss ‘¡Boom!’, your previous project on Antena 3?
–It was eight and a half years of ‘Boom!’. It is a program that has kept many company, but in every television season there are programs that end a cycle. The peace of mind that remains for the ‘¡Boom!’ is to have had a long life on television. There are of course viewers who miss us, but when we look back we have the feeling that we have done a very nice job for a long time. We remember him more with a smile than with sadness. About the future of the competition? It is not our decision, but that of the spectators and the heads of Atresmedia.
