The 61-year-old director recalled the movie’s premiere in November last year.
He told the host, “We were there on November 4, opening night Belfast Film Festival, 1,400 people in Belfast Waterfront Hall and I believe 50 percent of them were Jamie Dornan’s family.
“I thought we connected with most of Belfast. The other half were Kieran Hinds and Judd Hill (family). It was a great night and they were finally able to get back on their feet. It was so cool and I was totally made up.”
Asked if things were making him tell the story now, Prana said: “At the time of lockdown, it was all about restoring human contact.
It took me back to my childhood, a very uncertain time in Northern Ireland, the need to connect with people, laugh and dance, and all the darkness we could write in the dark, and I tried to write it as honestly as I did. I could. “I could.”
In addition to talking about the film and what it means to revisit his youth, the North Belfast man also joked about another memorable family incident early in his career.
Remembering the play her grandmother had seen, Kenneth said that she was nude in the role and that her grandmother was protecting her when an onlooker criticized her appearance.
He said, “It took him a long time to leave Ireland, but we finally convinced him. I was playing St. Francis of Assisi and I had to be naked. My grandmother was in the front row with the stage speculum, but I really tried.”
