Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta, assured on Thursday that the cultural bonus for young people of 400 euros will be available on 25 July. Next Monday, all those young people who will turn 18 in 2022 can register. “They already have a wide cultural range of products and services,” said Miquel Iceta.
The culture bonus is a kind of money card, whereby young people from one year onwards can spend 400 euros on cultural activities and products. There are 400 euros, including three segments: one of 200 euros for live culture, 100 euros for physical cultural consumption (books, records, video games…) and 100 euros to purchase digital products (platforms, online video games, e- books, audiobooks, etc.)
The bonus is intended to “give priority to purchase and physical distribution.” Not in vain, one of the objectives pursued is to lend a cable to the bookshops. And it is the intention of the cultural authorities to avoid the purchase of cultural products and activities through electronic commerce giants.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), more than 450,000 Spaniards were born in 2004, who can therefore benefit from this cultural bonus. Iceta spoke to them. Culture states that the voucher is personal and non-transferable and thus cannot be shared, although it has been said that the door has been left open for some entities to give an additional discount for a second ticket.
The Spanish voucher was created in the image and likeness of the cultural vouchers already active in France and Italy, and includes the “more traditional” cultural sectors, such as books, cinema, museums, performing arts, music, shows in vivo , digital platforms and subscriptions to newspapers and magazines.
Textbooks, stationery, software, hardware, musical instruments and sporting events are excluded from the subsidy. Pornographic products and products containing sexist stereotypes against women are discarded.
