LA UMU participates in FAN FUTURA, the sustainable festival of the region

The educational institution participated in FAN FUTURA with several activities parallel to the concerts aimed at scientific dissemination, the dissemination of work around the SDGs and even secured a Violet point within the festival, which was held in San Javier on July 28, 29 and 30. held.

Hand in hand with the Unit for Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC+i), dependent on the Vice Rectorate of Communication, Transfer and Scientific Dissemination of UMU, two research teams on marine life helped to understand how sustainability is being researched in this rural area. These activities are included in SDG 14 ‘Living Underwater’.

On the one hand, the ‘Species Bank’ project, developed by the research group of the University of Murcia Aquarium, was shown, which made them aware of the reality of the animal species that inhabit the Mar Menor and all the actions taken for its conservation and improvement of it.

The aim was to make the Mar Menor better known, its current situation and its future prospects. This activity was coordinated by Emilio Cortés, curator of the AquariUM.

Another University of Murcia project featured in the FAN FUTURA was the so-called ‘Sentinels of the Sea’, a citizen science project coordinated by the principal investigator of the Marine Ecology and Conservation group, José Antonio García Charton, showed how it is possible for the public to participate in a survey of the marine reserve of Cabo de Palos.

The ODSesinones project, led by the UMU Vice Rectorate for Social Responsibility and Culture, joined FAN FUTURA and offered several activities to increase the knowledge of the festival attendees about the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the 17 goals for sustainable development (SDG).
