The five-star Tipperary Hotel justified its price after consumers criticized the price of the Skunk Now on Twitter.
A receipt from the Cashel Palace Hotel showed that three teas or coffees cost €45 in the new hotel – an extra cost of €4.50.
Thousands of people watched this tweet, more than 24,000 liked the photo, and many are reading what’s in a skunk that makes it so expensive.
When I questioned the Irish Mirror, the hotel explained how their rates work and why it costs 10 euros for their property.
The spokesperson said: “The hotel pays €5 for a teapot/coffee pot (free refill if desired) plus €10 for three fresh skunks (one serving) with Hayes’ Farm www.hayesfarm.ie Mylene Boris, Butter from Glenilen Farm www.hayesfarm.ie .glenilenfarm.com and a selection of jams from Crossogue Preserves www.crossoguepreserves.com, all locally produced.
Some locals appeared on social media to defend the new hotel, one of them tweeted: “Why don’t you compare the price to say Adare Manor or Ashford Castle? Instead of posting a receipt in a small context. This hotel is a great incentive for Kashmir.”
Another added: “What do you expect when you travel to a place like this. Bad form strengthens the delivery. You have to know when to order. Think of it as a menu.”
The hotel’s opening earlier this year was rated one of the most “exciting” hotels in the world.
Prestigious Conde Nast Traveler magazine named Co Tipperary’s Cashel Palace “the most exciting new hotel to open in 2022”.
It closed its doors to visitors in 2015, but extensive renovations have made it one of the richest sites in Ireland.
