What should peace negotiations look like?

Date:

Because the question of peace negotiations is on everyone’s lips: what should they look like, please? And does anyone really believe that Vladimir Putin is a serious negotiating partner? So anyone who calls for talks with the Russian dictator and can’t answer these questions will have to take the charge of populism.

Because even though it sounds cheap to demand “neutral talks with both parties”, it is not that simple. The belief that someone will drive to Putin, who will wash his head and then seriously agree to peace with the Russian president, falls more in the category of castles in the air – perhaps even in the category of “naivety”. In any case, this shows a very simple understanding of the world. That’s not how it works!

Candidates of the Federal President offer themselves as mediators – bizarre!
It seems all the funnier that one or the other insignificant candidate for the federal presidential election makes the promise that he can bring peace after the election. When someone vying for a few alms at the polls for next Sunday seriously claims that the world has been waiting for a war savior from Austria, that’s a bit bizarre. From candidates for the highest office in the state, one might expect a little more realism.

Putin would only laugh at us!
After all, with Putin we are dealing with a real autocrat who is currently holding the world hostage with his nationalistic and megalomaniac fantasies. The past few months have shown how little he allows himself to be told by Western politicians. Anyone who wants can come along. It is even less likely if someone from a country that supports the EU sanctions wants to act as a mediator. Putin would only laugh at us!

Elon Musk only makes himself important
It’s just as crazy as the American billionaire and Tesla builder Elon Musk is now a world diplomat. His peace plan, consisting of four salient points and a yes/no vote on Twitter, suggests that peace can be that simple. Unsurprisingly, neither the Kremlin nor Ukraine approved Musk’s peace plan and reacted angrily. So again, someone wanted to make themselves important!

What it takes for peace
Peace needs sensitivity, diplomacy, strength and the right timing, not businessmen ruining it in the middle of a war. The right time for peace negotiations will come. But he’s not there yet.

After all, there is already a peace broker who has been trying his luck for a while and is at least accepted as such by both parties. The other troublemaker Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been trying to calm down in recent months. Although he is otherwise known for dubious policies, Erdogan is the man who positioned himself as a diplomat in this war.
