Know who you’re going to vote for

Date:

We are already witnessing an election campaign that will cost us Spaniards 140 million euros. Our local politicians are starting to move through the urban and rural geography of the region to warm up the atmosphere and request Murcia’s vote without even describing political programs or intentions. Knowing that many citizens will go to the polls like lambs, they begin to cover them with hollow words, all sorts of promises at the local level, criticism of each other, sectarianism or whatever to discredit rivals. At the same time, they hide the fact that in order to achieve their goals, they will negotiate even with the devil to gain or stay in power, even if they contribute little to the common good. Consistency is not part of their role. It is a fact that the ruling parties are the ones who normally win elections, an undermining inertia for any democracy. Only when they do really badly or show excessive wear do they lose and give way to the opposition. The latter, in turn, remains critically on its feet, but without offering exciting alternatives. Just wait for the relay. Once in power, the politician will abandon everything he promised in his speeches and will pursue his personal interests (it is his way of life) and those of the party (it is his employment agency). And the citizens are to blame for that. Sin is laziness. Let’s stop hearing sirens and start demanding that those who want to be councillors, mayors, parliamentarians and councilors fulfill their personal commitments, as Anglo-Saxon companies do. We need to know the names and faces of the candidates and interview them in meetings, debates and social networks. We need to look at their profiles, prioritizing those who have a good track record in the private sector, regardless of the lots they are packaged into. Enough civil servants without initiative, zascandiles who have never received a salary and climb. We have the right to be represented by specific people, not power machines.
