It comes on May 1, Labor Day. There was a time when thousands of people from all over the planet were beaten, imprisoned and killed for taking advantage of that day to claim labor rights. Then authoritarian regimes appeared and corrupted that date to organize operetta demonstrations that “flattered” a demure working class. Now this day is followed with interest to escape to beaches, mountains, tourist towns, cities, shows…, not to justify the virtues of work, of the fact of producing wealth for society. Those who want to demonstrate will do so as union representatives, not as workers, day labourers, office workers, the self-employed and the unemployed who see inflation, insecurity and technological helplessness erode their lives. The unions will set up a political theatre. They will take out worn-out banners and shout the usual slogans, while the proletarian situation among the active population is advancing again.
