Politicians (almost) behind bars

There is a criminal case against Sophie K., who was minister until the end of 2017. According to this, she would have wrongly continued to receive her ministerial salary and, as an opinion pollster, would have engaged in illegal price fixing. It is the presumption of innocence. But the popular belief that politicians always get away with it is wrong.

1. Let’s look at the relatively large number of political processes over the past half century. Initially, the focus was on the SPÖ, which ruled with an absolute majority until 1983. Several Red members of the government were convicted in the 1980s and 1990s. With less the fines and prison sentences withheld, but the resulting trust disaster.
