The short trial and the Austrian soul

Date:

We could quietly watch the trial of ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz. After all, Kurz is no longer active in politics. Moreover, the presumption of innocence must apply until the end of the trial. Premature acquittals based on common language are also inappropriate. The judge has the final say. But we experience a moral portrait of the Austrian soul.

1. In one respect It doesn’t matter whether Sebastian Kurz is acquitted or convicted. His followers would see any guilt and punishment as further evidence of the persecution of poor Basti. The left-wing parties, the left-wing prosecutors and a left-wing judge would be responsible. Conversely, it is predictable that for critics of Kurz, his legal innocence would simply be a welcome opportunity to continue to complain about him as a very shady character in the gray areas of the law.
