The revenge of the deceived

“What you do to me, I do to you.” Punishing disloyalty with the same misbehavior does not lead to the expected satisfaction, but often deepens personal suffering. It raises the question of where the limits lie for retaliatory actions and when revenge should remain a thought experiment.

Some stories stick in my head for so long that I end up writing them down as a column. For example, the story of Nina and Leopold. Leopold made wedding plans, Nina made Leopold the center of her life. She absolutely couldn’t imagine that he could ever be unfaithful to her. Leopold, who was anything but a womanizer, ended up having an affair.
