Walter Rosenkranz delivered 18,500 messages of support for the federal presidential election to the federal electoral authority on Tuesday morning — and challenged incumbent President Van der Bellen to a TV duel. His goal is to finish second and force Van der Bellen into a second round.
The fact that he could have given three times as many statements of support was a “very impressive sign that the people of Austria support me,” Rosenkranz said.
His next route would take him from the federal electoral authority to the Hofburg, where he intended to hand Van der Bellen a letter.
The reason is that Van der Bellen announced that he did not want to participate in TV duels. “With a serious candidate like me, he should at least have a discussion.”
Since neither the SPÖ nor the ÖVP have nominated their own candidate, Rosenkranz expects a few votes from their regular voters. He sees himself as a “candidate for the middle of society”.
A few days ago, Rosencrantz announced that it didn’t want to be a “Greeting August in the Hofburg” (see video above). He stands “uncompromisingly for Austria”.
