Bang in the committee: the ÖVP wants to summon Hans-Jörg Jenewein, formerly the right-hand man of Herbert Kickl. Jenewein had recently made headlines over an affair over an advertisement against the FPÖ and his subsequent departure from the party. Jenewein has attempted suicide and is on the mend.
The FPÖ suspects the indictment is a piece of cake from the Chancellor’s party because the opposition wanted to subpoena Interior Minister Gerhard Karner. This should provide information on why key figure Thomas Schmid, whose chats stir the judiciary and politics, should not be forced to appear before the committee. Despite multiple subpoenas, Schmid did not appear before the committee. The opposition wants him to be brought before the police. Interior Minister Karner says there is no legal basis for this. In fact, Schmid currently has no habitual residence in Austria. He lives in the Netherlands.
The ÖVP says they want to summon Jenewein if his health permits.
Furthermore, the ÖVP wants to draw the committee to the red area. Next week, former chancellery minister Josef Ostermayer (Faymann cabinet; it is about leg shame studies) and a former employee of the chancellery will be summoned.
