Energy crisis – Gewessler: 19 degree limit in public buildings

Date:

In Denmark, Germany and Spain there are already strict rules that, among other things, prescribe a maximum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius in public buildings. Now Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler also wants to create binding regulations in view of the energy crisis. There will also be a limit of 19 degrees in Austria.

The Green Minister wants to submit a corresponding proposal to coalition partner ÖVP. The rule should not apply in schools or hospitals, but in municipal offices or ministries, Gewessler said in an interview with “Kleine Zeitung”.

The minister is also considering a ban on advertising lighting after 10 p.m. “A lot of people in our country understand it’s smart,” she said. A ban on heating sponges is also being considered.

Gewessler: Climate bonus will not be renegotiated
Gewessler is sticking to the introduction of CO2 pricing from October, while at the same time the climate bonus reaches the people. She stressed that the fact that asylum seekers will also receive this, which some criticize in the ÖVP, will not be renegotiated. “I think it’s fundamentally wrong to point the finger at people and see what else they can take away,” the environment minister told the newspaper.
