ÖVP in turbulence – barter? How the bonus for asylum seekers came about

It is a bitter pill for the Turks: the climate bonus for everyone – especially for asylum seekers. In return, the Greens agreed to regionalize the climate bonus. Coalition means compromise. This is the genesis of the ÖVP, how this explosive deal came about. The climate bonus was negotiated under Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. Therefore, the deal is difficult to understand. It is hard to imagine that Kurz would have agreed to this agreement. So how did this passage come about?

Did the ÖVP misinterpret the passage?
The fact is that the ÖVP only wanted to pay the climate bonus to wage payers. On the other hand, the Greens also wanted to relieve people of social security. It was clear to the ÖVP that asylum seekers (they receive a minimum income), but not asylum seekers, would benefit from this agreement. So the Turks agreed.

But has the ÖVP overlooked a detail here? Because the climate bonus is linked to the main residence – the asylum seekers, who are in the country for 183 days, were suddenly involved. According to a green negotiator, there was no deal so the rural regions would get more.

The timing of events also determines the climate bonus: the tax reform was presented at the beginning of October after a council of ministers by Gernot Blümel and Werner Kogler. And that was on the day of the raid (!) in the Chancellery.

In the weeks before, there was great nervousness in the ÖVP, the rumor was already going around. This leads to the conclusion that the ÖVP passage just slipped through – the focus was definitely more on the WKStA at the time. You remember the press conference with the message: “There is nothing left here.”
